The Pistons may have a role to play if the Bucks and Heat ever hammer out a blockbuster deal involving Giannis Antetokounmpo.
According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, Detroit is a team worth monitoring as a potential third-party participant in a trade that would send Antetokounmpo to Miami. In that scenario, Heat guard Tyler Herro could ultimately land with the Pistons.
Herro’s name has surfaced in speculation surrounding a possible Giannis deal for weeks, but Stein’s report suggests Detroit’s interest may be more than just outside conjecture.
The fit is easy to understand.
The Pistons are coming off a 60-win season but remain in search of additional shooting and playmaking around franchise cornerstone Cade Cunningham. Herro would address both needs.
The 26-year-old has averaged at least 20 points and four assists in each of the past five seasons while consistently ranking among the league’s better perimeter shooters. He is entering the final year of his contract and is scheduled to earn $33 million in 2026-27.
If Milwaukee ultimately decides to move Antetokounmpo, many around the league expect the Bucks to pivot toward a younger roster. Herro, who could soon be in line for another sizable contract, may not fit those long-term plans.
Stein also reported that the Pistons continue to explore several avenues to improve their roster this summer. Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving and Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III have frequently been linked to Detroit, while Hornets guard Coby White, Thunder wing Isaiah Joe and Kings guard Zach LaVine are among the other names said to interest the organization.
But the biggest takeaway is that Detroit could find itself involved in one of the offseason’s most significant trade discussions if Antetokounmpo, the Bucks and the Heat eventually find common ground.
